Ladies, let’s talk… about periods.
This is such a taboo topic, and it really shouldn’t be. It’s 2019, people! We, as women, have to deal with it every. single. month.
Before I get to the good stuff, here’s a little back story about yours truly:
When I was younger, my periods were unbearable. My momma passed those great menstrual genes down to me (as her mother did to her, and her grandmother did to her, and so forth) so I was graced with migraines, intolerable cramps, severe fatigue, a face full of acne, and more. Some days my cramps were so bad I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed or go to school. With the absences and sheer pain, my mother took me to the doc to talk about options. This is when I began birth control - I tried 6 different pills and stayed on them for 3 months each only to be disappointed in every one.
I was about ready to give up until my doc introduced me to NuvaRing. For those of you who aren’t aware of what it is, it’s a clear ring that releases hormones throughout the 3 weeks you have it inserted into your vagina. Here are a few questions I frequently get asked about it:
-Does it hurt? No, it does not. You don’t even feel it!
-Do you put it in yourself? Yes, you do. It’s like putting in a tampon. If you can do that, you’re good to go.
-How do you get it out? You just wrap your finger around it, pull it out, and dispose. It’s not as scary as it sounds, trust me.
-What if it falls out? You can have it out for up to 3 hours for it to continue working.
-Do you get your period? Yes, you get it during the 4th week, once you take it out. Mine only lasts 2-3 days.
-What do you like most about it? The fact that I don’t have to think about it every day. I hated taking a pill every day and then having to double up and get sick if I missed a dose. This stays in for 3 weeks, you get your period during the 4th week, and then you insert a new one. If you’re interested in hearing more, leave me a note or check out NuvaRing’s website here.
Moving on, I’ve been on NuvaRing for years now and I am so thankful I have found something that works for me. However, it IS still birth control - meaning there are still side effects. I still get menstrual migraines, breakouts, bloating, fatigue, mood swings, nausea, etc. And this is where hello.me comes in.
hello.me asked me to try out their new Top Up Tonic for two months. Which brings me to why I’m writing this blog post. hello.me is a breakthrough, clinically-researched & nutrient-loaded, once-a-day-supplement designed to replenish your body with everything that birth control is known to strip away.
One thing I want to mention is that these capsules are vegan, gluten & allergen free, no synthetic fillers or colorants, non-GMO, AND made in the USA! I am very particular about what I put in my body, so all these great things helped me make my decision to try these pills.
So, I added these little capsules to my nightly routine, alongside my Allegra. During the first few weeks, I honestly didn’t feel much of a difference. But when that period came around, damn did I feel good! No headaches, no mood swings (I swear, ask my boyfriend!), no nausea, less fatigue/more energy and less acne. And my second month felt even better than the first. I can only imagine how I’ll be feeling as I continue taking these supplements.
Thank you, hello.me, for getting me back to a normal I didn’t even know I had. I feel more like myself than I ever have, and damn does it feel good. No more bad days, here!
