Happy National Lipstick Day, lovelies! 💋 It's one of my favorite days of the year. Let's celebrate with my top three drugstore picks and some tips on applying a long-lasting pout.
REVLON Ultra HD Matte $10
This liquid lipstick is everything. Everything. It's velvety, soft, moisturizing. And most importantly, it holds its color. Every time I wear them out, I get compliments on the hues. I have nearly ten shades - from purple to pink to maroon. It seems I pick a new one out every time I stop by CVS...
REVLON Colorburst $10
Colorburst has been one of my favorites for years (and I mean years). This line comes in a balm AND a stain, and I must say, I love them both. The balm makes my lips feel oh-so-soft every time I put it on. Apply the stain once, and you're good to go all day long. Both of these lines have an immense amount of colors, so you're bound to find one (or five...) that you like. My number one might be their bright red (240 Striking Spectacular), which you can see I sported in my first post.
MAYBELLINE Vivid Liquid Matte $9
If you're looking to make a statement, look no further than Vivid Liquid Matte. It's even in the name. It goes on smooth and stays vibrant all day long. This leaves my lips a tad dry throughout the day, but that's nothing a little chapstick can't fix. The hot pink was a perfect pair to Mean Girls on Broadway. (Sidenote: that show was amazing. Blog post to come on how to get cheap Broadway tickets...)
Now onto a few tips you may not have known about applying the perfect pout:
1. ALWAYS start out with a base of balm. My personal picks are Burt's Bees or Vaseline. I do try to stay away from Chapstick - it leaves my lips drier and needing it more. No matter your preference, pick a balm and apply it first to keep your lips moisturized.
2. Line your lips with concealer for a clean edge and defined pout. The easiest way to do this is with a brush. And your favorite concealer, of course - I do pay a little extra for NYX, because it's worth it, but we can get into my beauty must-haves in a bit.
3. Blot with a tissue or piece of toilet paper. Just a little bit, to take off the excess lipstick.
4. Now this one is important: take your index finger (or any finger really), put it in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and pull it out. Yes, this one looks a little silly, BUT it's totally worth it. You'll have a ring of lipstick around your finger - this is the excess lipstick that would get on your teeth. And we all know how embarrassing that can be.
Now go put on some lipstick, and live a little!
